The Brief

What the space asked for

A Shanghai residence asked for the depth and warmth of walnut, rendered with the softness of light-luxury design — elegant, calm and timeless rather than heavy or opulent.

The Approach

The thinking, made material

Walnut's deep brown tones are set against warm whites, soft beige, greige and light stone, so the wood stays bright and open. Champagne metal and brushed brass lift the luxury register quietly. Layers of tactile material — light marble and travertine, linen and bouclé, polished plaster, slim metal details — add richness, while cove lighting and wall-washers trace the grain.

The Outcome

What the space became

An interior that feels warm and composed in equal measure: luxury read through the hand and the light, never the price tag.

Design Notes

The brief, in full.

Concept

Combines the depth and warmth of walnut wood with the refined softness of Light-Luxury design — an interior that feels elegant, calm and timeless rather than heavy or opulent.

Balanced colour palette

Walnut’s deep brown tones paired with warm whites, soft beige, greige and light stone so the wood never feels heavy and the interior stays bright and open; subtle champagne-metal, brushed-brass and muted-bronze accents lift the luxury without overpowering.

Refined material layering

Natural walnut complemented by light, tactile materials — light marble and travertine, linen, bouclé and suede upholstery, polished plaster and microcement, glass and slim metal detail. Architectural lines stay clean and modern while furniture brings gentle curves and generous proportion; walnut runs through wall panelling, cabinetry and feature elements for continuity and warmth.

Soft, layered lighting

Cove lighting, wall-washers and warm ambient light highlight the walnut grain, creating a soft glow that deepens comfort and balances richness with lightness.
