A black-and-white house to be designed as a piece of history — mixing the modern with the old-school architecture of the building, honouring its lineage.
The Approach
The thinking, made material
We worked from the building's history outward: soft whites, light greige and pale taupe, with champagne and brushed-brass accents replacing heavier tones. A brighter ambience and neutral-white cove lighting keep the rooms hotel-calm. Light-neutral fabrics, soft-veined stone, clean panelled walls and statement artwork sit alongside a plush rug and low-profile furniture.
The Outcome
What the space became
Modern luxury that respects its heritage — calm, cohesive and timeless, where tradition meets the present in quiet harmony.
Design Notes
The brief, in full.
Concept — a piece of history
A black-and-white house designed from its own history outward, mixing the modern with the old-school architecture of the building.
Colour tone
Soft whites, light greige and pale taupe; heavy gold/yellow reduced to champagne and brushed-brass accents.
Lighting mood
A brighter overall ambience with neutral-white cove lighting (hotel-suite style); decorative pendants kept elegant, not overly warm.
Material & hotel cues
Light-neutral fabric sofas, softer-veined stone and marble, metallic accents matched to the bedroom’s lighting; clean panelled walls, statement artwork, a plush rug and low-profile furniture for a calm, premium feel.
Dining & kitchen
A classic, timeless register — “a quiet power in a room that seems to have existed forever, where every detail is deliberate and each piece has a story to tell” — warmed with considered, lightly industrial kitchen cues where tradition meets the present.
Resulting style
Modern luxury — high-end hotel suite, bright and airy, calm and cohesive from bedroom to living.
